The Journey Home

JourneyBanner_700

Title: The Journey Home
Author: Jilly James
Fandom: NCIS, The Sentinel, Stargate SG-1 (minor Without a Trace)
Relationship(s): Tony/Jack, Jim/Blair, Gibbs/Martin, Other M/M, M/F
Genre: Romance, Crossover, Sentinel Fusion (sentinels are known)
Content Rating: MA
Warnings: Adult language and themes, canon-level violence, explicit sexual situations, empathic assault
Disclaimer: Recognizable characters are the property of their respective owners. I own nothing and make no money, I’m just taking them out for a walk.
Beta Thanks: Two wonderful people put their precious free time into beta’ing for me, and I can’t thanks them enough. IcefallsTears, my unicorn, and Naelany, my sister in spirit, made this entirely possible. Note: I don’t always take good advice, so any issues are no reflection on their skill. It’s more likely my hardheadedness.
Special Thanks: To fanarts_series for producing another marvelous banner for this story.

Summary: After Tony assaults a guide at a crime scene, an old friend brings the Alpha Guide of North America to DC to investigate Tony’s claim of guide misconduct. This starts Tony on a new path away from DC and NCIS, and he finally finds a place to call home

Word count: 126k

Timeline/Spoilers: Occurs Season 8 of NCIS, and season 4 for SG-1, and a few years post series for The Sentinel. Essentially, I’m sliding SG-1 and the Sentinel forward in time to line up with NCIS in 2010/2011. Detail knowledge of any of the shows is not necessary but basic knowledge of Sentinel lore will help, as does general knowledge of the concept behind Stargate.
Note about Characters: Though there are a lot of fandoms and pairings, this is very much Tony-centric, meaning this story revolves around his journey (hence the title). If you don’t like Tony-centric stuff, run away! You’ll never be happy with my NCIS fic if this is an issue for you.
Note: Written for RoughTrade Spring 2014. Big Thanks to Keira Marcos and the Rough Trade community.
Feedback and Concrit: Feedback is wonderful, concrit is okay, so long as it’s actually constructive. Flames and negative nonsense won’t make it past moderation and you might wind up openly mocked.
Note on Capitalization: regarding capitalization of sentinel or guide: I treat this like a title or military rank. When used with a person’s name, or in lieu of their name, it’s capitalized, and otherwise (mostly) not.

    1. Jilly James

I was getting the infrastructure set so I can get the first couple chaps up tomorrow. Sorry for the red herring 😉

  3. Libi

This is my second favorite story of yours!

  4. etrangerici

Woohoo! I am SO incredibly excited to see this getting posted! Congrats for persevering and thank you, as well, for all your hard work. I enjoyed this at Rough Trade and am thrilled to see it here.

    1. Jilly James

Thank you. I never could have imagined it would take me nearly a year to wrap up the final touches on the story, but I’m very glad that posting time has arrived!

  5. sharwee

I enjoy your stories SO MUCH!! Never read a Dinozzo O’Neill pairing before and now I’m asking myself why so few of them lol but I’m sure it helps that I love both characters separately so together the yummiest factor is off the charts. xD Also, your website is quite beautiful. ♡♡♡♡

Once I thought of Jack/Tony it made so much sense to me that I went looking for it. And pouted mightily because there’s hardly any.

Thanks for stopping by the new site! happy reading.

Oh, I’m so glad to see this being posted. I loved it on Rough Trade and was waiting impatiently for it to go up on you site. Thank you for this. Thank you.

Have been wanting to re-read this story for forever! So glad you are finally posting it! Was just curious, how often and how much you would be posting? Thanks!

    1. Jilly James

Close to daily. I may have to skip a day due to schedule constraints, but I may also post twice in one day. It’ll all be up by the end of the month.

      Thanks much! Hope you enjoy

This story is every bit as good as Emergence. Heck of a cliff-hanger though. Can’t wait for more of this and Emergence.

  9. slowbro0609

I have loved everything you’ve written. Pleas keep up the good work you have gift.

  10. Kay

I love this story and cannot wait for the next Arc along with the completion of Emergence

I love your Stories. Thank you for sharing them with us.

    Hi,
its probably just me, but the ‘Journey Home’ .pdf seems not to be working. I’ve even reinstalled the adobe reader, but continue to get the message that the .pdf has been corrupted and therefore cannot be opened whenever I download it and try to open it.

By the way, love this new website of yours.
    Thanks
    V

    1. Jilly James

Hey V, I can try sending you another version of the PDF? I’ve had a couple people test and they aren’t having problems, but I do have two other versions. Let me know. Thanks much!

      1. V

        Jilly,
Thanks, I’ve tried downloading it again this morning with the same results, using a different browser. I’ll try again at work tomorrow to see if it’s actually my internet connection at home that is the problem. If that fails I’ll let you know.
I had no problems with the AO3 version, but I was hoping your own version would be cleaner.

Emergence and The Journey Home have fast become two of my all time favourites.

        1. Jilly James

Thank you so much. I’m glad you enjoyed them.

I think mine are cleaner than AO3, which is why I make them, but they’re also a bit bigger. Anyway, my source file is in Word, so if all else fails, If you have Word, I’ll happily send it to you and you can create your own PDF.

          1. V

            Hi Jilly,
success; downloading the .pdf at work was the way to go and yes your .pdf is so so so much better than AO3’s.
Off to make myself a decent cup of coffee and then I’m going to sit back and relax with you EAD page.

          2. Jilly James

Yay! AO3’s PDFs make my brain hurt, which is why I do my own. Oddly enough, mine is like 50 pages longer too. Obviously that’s not content, so it’s must just be spacing.

            Happy reading!

  13. ST

Thanks for posting this story! I loved reading it again! I look forward to the sequel and more of Emergence.

  14. Helengloucester

Yay! Love this story and I love you for writing and sharing. Are you completely better now? Cuddles, Hxx

    1. Jilly James

Hey Helen! I’m getting better, but not entirely there yet. Some longer term complications from my head injury, but I’m just happy they aren’t keeping me off my computer any more! I’m glad you enjoyed the story. Big hugs.

  15. Lisa

Just finished The Journey Home and loved it all! Thank you so much for sharing! Reading you and a couple of other authors in fanfiction is the BEST entertainment ever as far as I’m concerned!
And you provide it basically for FREE! I really appreciate you being willing to put yourself out there, (something I could never do), my skin is too thin and besides I can’t write. 😉
Looking forward to the Emergence story that you plan to post soon.
    Thank you,
    -Lisa

    1. Jilly James

Thanks so much… I appreciate it. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Emergence up next! 😀

  16. Marlislash Gabs

The cast is so appealing, looking forward to play with.

Just wanted to send a big THANK YOU for making this available for down load to my Kindle, can’t wait for Emergence to be next. I have a lot of admiration for what you do and to so generously share it with the rest of us is beyond awesome. Because I can’t say it enough – Danke, Bitte, Merci, Dankjewel, Tak, Tack, Gracias, Grazie, Toda, Go Raibh Maith Agat, Asante, Eskerrik Asko, Arigatou, Dankon, Kittos, Terima Kasih, Tenkyu, Obrigado and Gratius AgoTibi ( and because I am a total geek – Qathlo -) you rock!!!

    1. Jilly James

You are quite welcome! And thank you for the Klingon! 😀

  18. Felicitas

I can’t believe I missed this, but then you talked on Keira’s podcast and I had to look it up *lol*. It is a really great story and I love that pairing 😉 Thank you for sharing.

    1. Jilly James

Thank you! It’s always happy making that people will give this unconventional pairing a shot. I’m glad you enjoyed it!

  19. hexe

Read this while it developed on RT and discovered it then at AO3. Now I read it in one big part and have to tell you again how very much I enjoyed it. I really hope you are not finished telling this tale. There are very few fusions with Sentinel that are thorough in inventing and explaining new concepts AND telling a good tale relationship-wise. (And I wasn’t that much of a fan of the show itself – I just like what talented wriiters like yourself can DO with the concept)

  20. ravyn

I’ve read this at least half a dozen times and it is still as fresh as entertaining as the first time. Today is the first time I actually looked at the cast photos and I was highly amused to see Morgan…I was totally picturing Cumberbatch in my head before I even looked. This is really an amazing story and I can’t wait to see more.

  21. Kaycross1184

So I’m confused. I saw that this story is complete but I feel like we should be expecting a part 2. Do you have thoughts on a sequel/second book someday or do you consider it completely finished? Loved it so I have that I’m gonna read it again even though I just finished it like a day ago.

    1. Jilly James

The beginnings of the sequel is posted under evil author day. Aside from what’s already there, I’m not sure when I’ll return to this verse.
